Troop 1005
Who We Are
Troop 1005 is a Scouts BSA Troop that is based in Cerritos, California and is part of the Pio Pico District in Greater Los Angeles Council. The Troop was originally founded in 1970 in Lakewood. We offer a well rounded program that includes: overnight camping, day hiking, backpacking, bike riding, ATVing, white water rafting, rock climbing, and week long summer camps. We are always looking to plan the next adventure and try something new; with something for everyone. Most importantly in Troop 1005 we like to have fun. Looking forward to you joining our troop.

Venture Patrol High Adventure Program
Venture Patrol is designed to provide our older Scouts with opportunities for high adventure activities such as overnight backpacking, long term outings and any other activity they can imagine.Â
Venture Patrol Qualifications:
At least 14 years old
At least Life Rank
Minimum 35% participation in all Troop activities including at least ten days of camping within the year
Completed interview with Senior Patrol Leader, Scoutmaster and other available leaders
*Scouts if they don't meet requirements #1 and #2 can still interview and challenge to join Venture Patrol. The ability and spirit of a Scout is more important than their age and rank.
Red Rope Challenge
The Red Rope Challenge was brought back from a Summer Camp by Mr. Porter. It ties the fourteen basic Scout BSA knots in under one minute. It is a great way to learn the basic knots and commit them to muscle memory. Practice ropes are blue and white. Once a Scout learns the sequence and feels they are ready to take the Red Rope Challenge, they schedule a time with a Scout who has completed the Red Rope Challenge to observe and time the effort performed in front of the entire Troop. If the Scout completes the Red Rope Challenge, they graduate from the blue and white practice rope to a red and white rope.
Order of the Arrow Honor Society
For over 100 years, the Order of the Arrow (OA) has recognized Scouts and Scouters who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives. This recognition provides encouragement for others to live these ideals as well. Arrowmen are known for maintaining camping traditions and spirit, promoting year-round and long term resident camping, and providing cheerful service to others. OA service, activities, adventures, and training for youth and adults are models of quality leadership development and programming that enrich and help to extend Scouting to America's youth.
